Foolish exhaust idea for my NC29
Have just bought a full stainless system (make unknown) off e-bay for my gullarm streetfighter and am considering trying something a bit different
The link pipe is a 50mm diameter slip on type with spring loops. It came with a standard end can that has a slip-on & spring loops adapter fitted (v-handy for MOT time
).
What I'm considering is getting a universal DB killer (a 47mm / 48 mm diameter one for big bore race cans) and fitting it in the end of the link pipe.
My thought is that I could then run the bike with no end can (should look awesome and shouldn't be insanely loud).
I don't mind a bit of noise (it's handy for not getting splattered on the city commute), but I don't want something that the boys in blue will chase me for
Obviously there may well be some issues getting it to run right but does anyone know of any other potential issues
BTW: This is for my winter bike, so any suggestions need to be made with the fact that I don't want to spend lots of money.

It won't work...probably..and if it does, I doubt as well as a std setup..
but try it and see..you'll have to rejet for it but the lack of back pressure and pipe length will be an issue.
There is a reason systems are as long as they are and if you end up shortening one by a quarter then you are looking for trouble
It will look cool and sound awesome though so take some vids...

Thanks mate, will do on the vids
Would the presence of a baffle not provide some of the back pressure that the can would normally provide?
What I'm hoping for is that it should sound and perform like I had an unbaffled race can on the bike
I understand the need for back pressure, is the need for the system to be a certain length a separate thing or can it be compensated for by the baffle?

Re: Foolish exhaust idea for my NC29
I took my end can off and started the bike and took it up the road and back once.
There were 3 things I found out
1. It was stupid loud,
2. It didn't sound that good
3. There was a loss of power
If I was you I would buy a good quality slip on can and keep the standard can for mot's.
You will get bored of an obscenely loud exhaust on a commute.
Plus it will sound better

my '23 with stainless pipes, didn't notice any power decrease, but gave me a headache after riding it for less than 5 miles.

What is this talk of back-pressure?! Resistance to flow is only a bad thing for four-stroke performance.
Tubbygit - your idea will work fine provided you get the fuelling set up properly. It won't be the best option for performance since the baffle will reduce gas flow, but I don't think that's what you're going for. The lack of a (race) can will also alter the performance due to the change in tailpipe length, but I doubt noticeably.

Re: Foolish exhaust idea for my NC29
Gave it a go this afternoon, it does look awesome (pics to follow), and the performance is ok, seems to have lost a bit of torque but otherwise no real concerns (top speed with my fat arse onboard seems about the same).
However there is a bit of a problem with the noise: it's just too loud even with a baffle. Don't get me wrong it sounds awesome, but it's also an open invite to get nicked
May be able to get a more effective baffle off fleabay (it's not like they're expensive), but may also just try to get hold of a stubby can to go on there.

Those look fairly spot on, bit pricy for the budgetcycle (was thinking something cheap & 2nd hand).
Oh well, no need to rush, will monitor ebay for a bargain :)
