Howto: K&N Filter for NC30

after months of trial and error between myself, other forum members, and K&N the company its self. we finally have a solution with a reasonable price tag!

A close to perfect fit K&N panel filter - Product Number 33-2006

it cost £28.99 (2010) NOW £28.66 (2012)

Tools Needed:
Stanley Knife,
Chissel (Sharp - Wood)
Sand Paper,

1. Remove the Paper filter close to the houseing with your stanley knife, easy peasy job.



2. remove the filter gauze from the under side, there are 6 abs plastic blobs/lugs, i found a sharp chisel easiest and gave it a sharp tap to cut the heads of. a stanley knife would do it but due to working within the housing it may be tricky.



3. cut either the right or left hand shoulder from the filter, ONLY CUT OFF/REMOVE ONE SIDE i used my stanley several times just score the surface and go over it 10 times and the knife will drop through the plastic is very soft so dont force it, just take your time.

4.remove the remainder of filter paper around the houseing with a "SHARP "chisel, and then sand off the excess to remove any chance of break down entering the engine/fueling system.



5. then fit to bike, and have a beer.

also

the standard paper filter is 20mm deep with 43 Fins from left to right

the K&N cotton filter is 28mm deep with 15 fins from front to back

so far more surface area for air to pass than before.

ive been itching to tell everyone for weeks, but i wanted to make sure it was a surething before letting everyone know. i was the guinea pig and didnt want everyone buying one and it not fitting.

chuffed it fits etc, just hope it cures my mid range flat spot, or over compensate and make the bike run lean, if so up a size on jets wont be riding or starting for month as i still have loads to do!

Thanks for the karma kris. what a gentleman you are.

Alex witham will the test pilot, as i dont have a rear end to the bike at the min! hes ordering and planing on dynoing early in jan so will be a good start to see where its at, my bike is gonna be ace to ride when back together QA throttle, new air filter, powder coating everywhere, upgraded rear shock, its going to be like a different/new bike to ride.

just for bumping purposes and a little update on this.

after modifying the plastic air filter base plate, 2 x 25mm dia holes and then dremmelled the bits out between i have a small opening to clean cold air.

also i finally start the bike on saturday just gone.

and can confirm that it revs much better through the midrange, more better throttle responce for sure as compared to the old one, i will get this confirm on the dyno. i have spoken with rick oliver aboiut this a couple of times and he's all in favour for everything ive done, the hole the filter etc and confirms it would be better than stock, and a better upgrade to that of an exhaust.



ill be hopfully taking the bike for a spin on saturday and i shall report back.

not sure it that's aimed at me or not. if it is, I didn't, PDQ made mine (I bought it second hand)
