Why do NC30's have this tab like the RC30's but not used?

I was looking at arsey30's sweet RC30 and the thread about rearsets. Something caught my eye, the additional tab with the stiffener bar or some kind of torsion bar is attached to it. My NC30 has this tab but it isn't used... how ever the RC uses this.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

Its the rear brake torque arm.

I guess its not fitted to the NC30 for cost reasons but then again we remove it on all our race RC30's as its just in the way. It should help reduce rear wheel hop when using the rear brake hard but Ive never found teh rear brake on one to be good enough to cause any trouble.

A couple of the lads on here have manged to fit RC30 torque amrs though to their NC30's with relitive ease.

It's quite interesting that Honda stuck on the extra tab but never fitted them to the bike.

As the RC was designed for racing and the NC was not, it was considered a useful arrangement, but is of little gain, certainly on the road, and as Stephen says, a lot of people removed them, the front brake does all the stopping.

Honda may have considered it at the NC design stage, but decided it was a waste of time fitting the torque arm.

I've seen people fit the same torque arm setup as the RC30 onto the NC30 before (using a few RC30 parts). It can also be done on the NC35 but it needs a lot more work.

It's quite telling though that there appear to be no torque arms on any of the MotoGP bikes[1] so apart from making the NC30 look a bit more like the RC30 there's probably no point in it.

Some of the early-mid 80's honda GP bikes had torque arm arrangements, the RC is probably a wash up of those ideas from the era.

It went the same way as anti-dive suspension and enclosed brake discs...
