you don't want factory settings..
you want settings that suit you...

The springs are probably too soft and if original will be very tired...so looking at getting them sorted is a good call.
Either way, set the sag - easily done. Then count your damping clicks and err on the softer side and then ride it.
If it is too soft and you have used all your preload then you need the harder springs. You cannot control the fundamental lack of spring rate with damping.

Bottom line - what does it do now? put damping in the first 3rd of adjustment and set your sag and go from there.
