another what year question

Post by thailand »

Just picked up an old CB400 in Thailand. Frame number is NC27, but from looking at pictures online it is definately not a CB-1. I presume frame number has been changed. Engine number indicates NC23E, looks like this may have been changed as well.

From looking at pictures online the frame and engine design seem to be from some where between 1993 to 1999, which would make it an NC31 or NC39.

Does anyone know any suttle differences between these two frame types and the engines in them, that you can see, that would help me determine what year the bike may be ?

Looks like you've got an NC31 alright, a standard CB400 Super Four. Looks like you've managed to pick up a really clean one too. I'd say you've got one of the first models, so 1992-1995 or so, going by the style of engine casing. There are others on here with more knowledge than me though who should be able to help you out more. Also, there should be a wee sticker on the rear sub-frame that you can see when you take the seat off, it should tell you which specific model you have i.e. F2N/F2R/F2S/F2T/F2V/F3S.

Hope this is of some help. Great looking SF though, and love the colour.

Bodhi

Thanks for your reply. That has narrowed it down a little.

Unfortunatly, looks like the sticker under the seat has been removed.

As far as I can tell from the photos it looks like mine except that mine is black and has a full Yoshimura exhaust system.
Mine was built in 1993 in Japan.
Frame no MCHOO NC31 1018706
Engine No NC23E 1388720
