Fitting Rick oliver fork upgrade kit
Just recieved my RVF fork upgrade kit from rick o, my question is how much fork oil do i need to put in and can someone give me a base setting to start with, im 11 stone with leathers on and using the bike for trackdays.
Also can anyone tell me if the kit was meant to come wih spacers or is that just the VFR kit?

I thought the upgrade kit was either RVF or VFR?
For the oil level, did you not recieve a syringe and tube to measure the depth?

He does kits for both. yes i got a syringe but no info on how much oil to use, do i just use the standard amout as per the haynes manual or not.
I would ask rick but know he's a busy man and thought id get a faster response on here from peoploe that have used the kit before i bother rick.

Re: Fitting Rick oliver fork upgrade kit
When i got the kit for the VFR it came with the instructions so it was easy to follow. I could pass them on to you but i reckon they will be different for your RVF. I do remember the volume of fluid being different than what haynes suggested.
If the kit is for the RVF then i reckon the spacers are used. Rick woudsn't supply them if they are not required. The syringe method of filling(removing really) the forks is a great way of getting the right amount of fluid. Once the fork is rebuilt, the syring sits on the stanchion lip with the syringe tip and tube sitting inside the tube. The fluid is poured into the stanchion, pumping the piston getly to remove the air. Once the fluid has been poured in and it reaches the thin tube thats attached to the syringe, the excess is removed by the syringe. Making sure that it remains sitting on the lip.
I bet someone here has had the kit fitted to their RVF, just hang about and someone will answer i reckon.

Re: Fitting Rick oliver fork upgrade kit
There is no new spacer with the RVF kit, just the VFR, just the springs and race grade oil he supplies.
put in 445cc as standard into each fork and you will be fine. dont be afraid to contact him if you are stuck. anytime i have got anything from him and asked for advice after, he has been great.

Re: Fitting Rick oliver fork upgrade kit
Ok i need a bit of help here, ive started rebuilding the forks and come across a couple of problems, firstly when dismantling one of the forks the damper rod bolt would not fully unscrew from the damper rod, it just keeps turning but not letting go of the rod. i thought id leave it and just tighten it up when it comes to rebuilding however the same is now happening when tightening the bolt??? The other fork came apart no problem so i cant work out why this is happening.
The second problem is ive nearly finished rebuilding the other fork and im now at the point where the spring goes in, followed by the spacer and washer. i pull the damper rod down as far out as possible and push the spacer down as far as i can which shows about 4mm of thread for which the top bolt screws to but i cant keep it there long enough to get the top bolt on. is there a trick to doing this or am i doing something wrong?
One thing i think is worth mentioning is there is a spacer that sits inside the fork tube that the spring sits on that was there when i dismantled the forks but isnt shown in the haynes manual or the PDF parts manual i have. Is this meant to be there as if it wasnt it would make it a lot easier to get the top bolt on. The forks were apprantly tuned by GF for the previous owner, what he meant by tuned im not sure if it was just set up by GF or new parts (springs, spacers etc) were used so this spacer could be something thats been fitted by GF???
Can anyone shed any light on this?

Re: Fitting Rick oliver fork upgrade kit
if its not in the manual then its quite possibly there due to the forks being tuned for a previous owner......is there one on the other fork as well.....if you have all the parts thats pictured in the manual then i would just fit them parts :D :D
please,god,....give me the chance to prove that winning the lottery won't spoil me!!!
