(Urgent) Help Please! - no petrol getting to engine!
Just put my RVF400 back together after removing tank among other things. There were no breather or drain pipes there.. is this normal/okay?
Connected the fuel hose and vacuum hose and clamped them on, and went for a ride. 1min into the ride heard a gargling noise (like you hear when you're running out of petrol). I knew I had more than 5 litres of petrol left but I switched the fuel tap to 'reserve' anyway. Kept hearing the noise and about a minute later the engine just cut off and the bike stopped. Got it started 5mins later and got about 10 metres before it cut out again.
Managed to get the bike home on a trailer, however I can't find the problem.. I'm pretty sure there's no petrol getting to the engine, and so the 1-2minutes I got was probably just petrol that was already in the carby..
Checked the fuel hose and it looks fine. Checked vacuum hose and it also looks fine - no kinks. It is slightly short, so is a little bit bent when attached. I pushed the tank forward and made sure the vacuum hose didn't have any bends at all but the bike still isn't starting..
EDIT: Tried it with the fuel tap in the 'ON' position and 'reserve'.
Any ideas??
Cheers

A) carbs were cleaned a couple weeks ago by a mechanic who specialises and races these bikes..rickyb_dj wrote:when was the last time you

B) Never in the 6-8 weeks I've had the bike have I myself done it... Not sure if previous owner's mechanic did.. Doubtful..
I've never had one problem with the bike.. This has only happened after I put the tank back on so I'm assuming it's something to do with one of the 2 hoses, because they're the only 2 things I disconnected and reconnected..
However, they look like they're connected fine and no bends or kinks. I disconnected and re-connected them both again and still no good.

Hello,
maybe it could be an electrical problem, I had the same symptom during running on my NC30 and it was problem of connexion of the alternator on regulator rectifier (cutted wire)
have a look on your connexions
regards,
Vince

Thanks Vince but this wouldn't cause the bike to make a gargling sound and then die. Also, the bike is kicking well. I'm 99% sure it's fuel related..vince67 wrote:Hello,

Have you put the vacuum hose on the correct spigot on the tap??
It should go on the outer spigot sometimes on the bottom and sometimes on the right as you look at it!

FIXED!!!
I'm not sure whether I should be happy it was a simple fix, or angry it was such a stupid little mistake that left me stuck on the side of the road like an idiot!!
Haha thanks guys. What the hell is that spigot on the bottom doing there if nothing goes on it?!?!
By the way, is it alright if I don't have a breather hose and drain pipe?
