Derestrictor

I was looking through a box of bits and found this little device. I believe its a desrestrictor, is that true?

Where does it plug into? Is somewhere near the CDI?

Also where are the nc30's restricted i.e is it in the rev range or top speed?

going by that pic it looks like it plugs into the loom where you'd normally plug in the speedo. so, nose cone off then easy job.

top speed.

I was under the impression that it replaces the speedo on track bikes as I have a few on some old looms, may be wrong though.

A desristrictor would usually plug in-line - so it would have two plugs. I've never seen a deristrictor with only one plug and three wires - could well be a really ugly indicator relay with that plug. And certainly won't plug into the CDI or speedo loom. Won't fit an NC35 either.

For comparison, my NC30 deristrictor (Posh) has two plugs with 5 wires each.

The one on my ZXR connects from where the speedo clocks join the wiring loom, rather than down at the CDI end like the HRC (and clone) boxes fit.

So it could be, I can't remember what that connector looks like that comes out of the back of the clocks on the VFR's, pretty sure it has 3 wires though..

I can guarantee it plugs into the speedo loom when the speedo has been removed, I have at least 3 that have been done.

Well i fitted it to the bike at the speedo, definately fits but dont know what it does as im still sorting out the bike so wont know for a while.

What will it actually do on a road bike? Anything or best of binning it?

It will probably remove the standard Jap model 180km/h speed restriction, giving you a higher top speed. All Jap models are restricted to 180km/h as standard.

Being a non inline unit it will also allow you to unplug/remove your speedo (on a track bike) while still removing the speed restriction.
