hi guys both the front and rear shocks on my nc are as soft as s##t.

what options do i have ? obviously i could just get them serviced re sprung and valved.
what i would like to know is there any better/more cost affective alterative options?

anyone?

To save a bit on the front you can buy springs and valve upgrade ect from someone like Rick Oliver and do the work yourself.

Rear you may be lucky and pick up a good 2nd hand aftermarket rear shock but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Suspension and tyres make or break an NC30 IMHO so bite the bullet and do it right.

i want to do it rite, its just that iv been reading on here about people having there shocks lengethend 10-13mm? whats the gain in doing this?

also i have seen people saying about using rs250 rear shock? again whats the advantage?

I think people tend to go for the rs250 shocks because they are easy to mod,and have height adjuster.
I think you need to put your nc30 spring on the rs250 shock.

You generally don't lengthen the standard '30 shock (you can, but it comes with a hefty price), you can mod the dogbone linkage that it mounts to by drilling new holes and filling the old ones (basically shortening the linkage). The ratio is 3.5:1, so 10 mm shorter will give you ride height lift of 35 mm. Certainly no substitute for an aftermarket shock, but quickens up the handling very nicely and does the job if your're on a budget (and if the bike has more skills than you!)

You have to change the spring on the RS250 shock, you can get away with the stock NC30 spring, but aftermarket matched to your weight would be better again.

You definitely don't do the linkage mod with the RS250 shock: the shock is already longer than the standard NC30 unit and also has adjustable ride height. The main advantage of the RS250 shock is that it's longer, more adjustable (if you get the right model) and newer, so you know it'll be a bit fresher than a 20 year-old NC30 shock.
