For those who want to do USD conversion on NC30

Post by theoutsider »

If you would like to change your forks to USD from zxr 400 L,do not swap the stem.Tried today, took the stem out of the nc30 bottom yoke, took out the one from the zxr 400,and I`ve put the nc30 stem into the zxr bottom yoke.IT WONT FIT,the nc30 stem is too small, not by much(half a mm)

So my advice,do not believe in the stories that you just take the stem out of the nc30,and put it on zxr. What is even the point of putting the ZXR Yoke in the oven and the stem in the freezer>?The yoke will come back to it`s initial size, haven`t tried it but is pointless.

Good Luck.

i have done a couple, you have to machine a sleeve and weld it on to the bottom of the nc30 stem,i usually drill the yoke and stem and put a 6mm bolt through to pin it,the top yoke also needs boring out to fit.

I just had a quote to fit a sleeve 120 quid. And the the stem from the zxr is smashed to bits.
Now I need bottom yoke, and RO conversion kit

Just buy the conversion kit,you wont save any money .It`s getting rather expensive

I've a new conversion kit here that does VFR to RVF for sale if anyone's interested. It includes the bearing and everything. I'm not sure if it's the same as a ZXR kit though.

,haven`t tried it but is pointless.

Good Luck.
Mate as I said in the PMs you sent me - it was over 6 years ago that I did mine and got a mates Dad to do the machining for me as He has all the precision equipment available to him.

Heating one part will expand it and cooling the other will make it contract - even if it is just fractions of a mm. This allowed me to fit the new Machined NC30 stem to the ZXR yoke. Once they both returned to their original temperature, they are locked together pretty solidly - its basic engineering.

Its takes time and alot of work to sort these kinds of mods out - its not just the kinda thing you decide to do, and complete on a saturday afternoon.
