30 engine in rvf jetting problems now

Post by skinnydog0_0 »

hello again all,

I have read through loads of post on re-jetting and jetting for nc30 and 35's but cant seem to find advice to match this situation :(

As before i have an nc30 engine in an rvf frame + electrics. I now have the bike running, but it sounds very loud. it is like the exhaust is blowing, but i dont think it is, i have tightened the bolts (is there a way i can check if they are blowing)?
The carbs (RVF carbs)are running 110 front and rear, and the filter has been modded with a free flow corse foam and 2 of the squares cut out of the top of the air box.
I have drilled the slides and added the extra 0.5mm shim.
I am also running a micron race can.
The bike is very hard to start, the only way to get it going is to have NO choke but full throttle then keep it revving on the idle adjuster.
when riding, it will pull okay till about 6k or 7k then it is almost like it is choking up or struggling. It will rev to the red line, but seems very lumpy.
Where is the best place to start?
i have a standard unmodified airbox lid if that is worth a try?
Thanks in advance

Start from standard man - with the chunks out the airbox it will be a messy lean mix

Std is best..

saying that I use RVF carbs on my 30.

I have no airbox lid, 2 sheets of HRC foam and I use 130 main jets.....

Hi CMSMJ1,

Ok Thanks, will try the other airbox lid first.
I also have some 120 and 122 jets, that i can try without any airbox lid.
Do you get alot more noise through the carbs, over the standard setup?

I agree with mark here, get it standard and build from there. Once its running right then start the mods. The way your having to start it means something is badly wrong somewhere. Reset all your carbs settings too

Go for a standasrd airbox, standard filter, rvf carbs and 112/115 jets.

okay thanks DataRacer. as its a UK spec engine than runs 120/122 jets as standard rather than 112/115 should i go with the larger jet size or down jet to the 112/115?
will have a go with the standard box on the 110 jets i have in now and see how it goes.

The engine makes no difference to the jetting (as a basic rule)

The RVF carbs are different to the VFR ones and so they require smaller jets..

+1 What Mark said!

Only through trial and error Mark!

Messing with airboxes & filters causes massive jetting issues that usually need massive jetting changes!

Right, that's it Dataracer, Cammo, whoever ou are!! Jjst bloody stick to a name will you!

So..yes, I agree - trial and error and knowing that anything other than complete airbox, snorkels and flaps or no airbox at all causes grief!

I run a complete airbox on my race bike - all std. runs lovely
I run no airbox at all on my road bike and it is also lovely!

Arse about face I know...and I'll probably swap them over sometime but I have them both running great
