NC23 Clutch issues

Post by BillingCBR »

Hi, noticed that since I've had the CBR on the road the clutch will occassionally stick after sitting over night. When switched on in the morning the engine is fine, but as soon as I try to put the bike in gear it lurches forward and stalls. When I restart the bike it will lurch forward a little then its fine and doesn't give trouble all that day. To me it seems like my clutch plates are gummed up a little and may need replacing.

Any advice? All in I'd be looking at around £55 - £60 for steel and friction plates, plus a cover gasket.

Another small problem is that when at idle in neutral, there is a rustling type noise coming from the engine, this noise does go away when the clutch lever is pulled in, and comes back as soon as it is let out again. Is this a worn bearing? If so does anyone know what one I will need? I'm guessing one that looks like a washer with little needle rollers in the face, but don't know the part number for it :S

If you need them I have brand new clutch plates and friction plates for nc23..

Have been sitting around for about 7 months... was going to replace my clutch before I had a spill.. now I have a 600 so no need for them..

Make me an offer 8-)

I would but atm I have a load of other financial obligations, meaning I only have about £20 to spend :( I know they're worth more than that so won't insult you with the offer.

I haven't had the sticking issue for a little while now, I'm guessing it was probably some gunk stuck to the plates from being stood for 3 years.

I'm still worried about the grumbling noise though, when in neutral and the clutch is out there is definately an abnormal noise, and a vibration in the pegs and bars, but when the clutch lever is pulled in it goes away :| Is this likely to be a bearing or not?

Yeah it may be a bearing, wouldnt worry about it..

Probably not worth replacing the plates until it starts sticking..

I do have a spare clutch basket if that helps.. its second hand though
