Carbon Skinning

Post by nakes999 »

Anyone ever tried or done some carbon skinning on any bike parts?

I wouldn't mind trying to make a carbon fairing at some point but I know a few people on here tried it... I'm not sure of the success rate though...?

I wouldn't bother getting the kit, just buy the ingredients separately. Unless you're doing a very small job, or something cosmetically, you'll need a hell of a lot more gear than that.

Making your own carbon parts isn't a world away from everyday fibreglass repairs, it's just more time consuming, precise and costly :ninja:

Not that I have money for this but as a matter of interest, how much for the carbon lowers?

have you considered carbon vehicle wrap film? you may get the results for a lot less money, not easy to use though

I have never done it nor did I see it in the flesh...but that vx220 looks very nice.
I have been thinking about wrapping some fairing panels before after I saw this link:

I just got 10x20cm of this 3M carbon wrap as a sample freebie from a seller on ebay, gotta say its the best match to real carbon fibre I've seen!
Held up against a sheet of real CF they look identical other than the Wrap has a matt finish, might try lacquering a piece to see how it looks and if its possible!
Thinking of maybe using it to skin the fairing infills and the tester piece is big enough to make a top yoke cover
Will post up pics when i find my camera!
