My NC30 Projects.

Right just started my project today on my 89' NC30. It was bought a few months ago without fairings but had been rebuilt by a Triumph restorer!! or so i thought!! Obviously in the 60's you just made bits to fit, if you get my drift!!

Since buying it has run very rough, and eventually refusing to start. Since then i have stripped it down and found a few dodgy bits.


1. totally knackered air filter including holes.
2. No sub filter
3. ER10 spark plugs, just kinda placed in!!

After replacing these bits and fitting the correct spark plugs it started first time, but still ran a bit rough.

So today i have started in ernest to get the project moving.

After taking the air filter box off, i found no rubber snorkle to start with. Wll this make a difference to the running??

after reading Data's carby guide i started taking the carbs off. All the top rubber screws were loose and after little tug the carb just fell off. Will this make a difference to the running??

Carbs on the bench started with front left carb to clean and replace the jets. First thing i noticed was blue gasket sealer everywhere. Now if it has an a rubber gasket it shouldnt need blue sealer should it??

Anyway start removing the jet and the emulsion tube is loose with the 110 jet stuck fast basically moulded to it. Get it out and it has 5 holes in the emulsion tube!! Arent the front meant to have 4?? So i check the front right side and sure enough a loose emulsion tube a 110 jet moulded on and four blocked holes in the emulsion tube!!

This is where im at the moment!! sat having a coffee thinking not to buy a resto triumph project on the cheap!! Pics to follow and a proposed spec list!!!

Don't ya just love sorting out other peoples bodge jobs?!

Can't help much but I do remember the last NC24 I owned had the snorkels removed (god knows why) but still ran pretty sweet.

Right, after a quick chat with Rick O, fitted dynojet 120 jets front and 122's at the rear drilled the slides plus a set of Rick O road needles. Carbs fitted also fitted an Ignitech module with modified stock. Just taken it for a quick spin. Bloody hell!! what a difference!!

Very pleased.

Next week going to fit my Nitron shock and full Ethos stainless sytem with a twin stack Mercury!!!

other peoples mistakes can be comical
Just to let you know though there is nothing wrong with having ER10EH plugs, they are just 1 grade colder + you wont eat them as quickly if using the bike hard or high revs for prolonged periods of time such as motorways

Yep Jas, they are finally going on!! Im just looking through the Haynes manual to figure out the best way to do both. Hopefully Wednesday i will have the exhaust system off, Thurs the shock and rear headers that combination sounds like the best way to do it. Then Saturday to put all the shiny stuff on!!!

Right im a bit ahead of schedule, which is a first for me!! Had a spare few hours today, so decided to see how far i got!



Wheel off, then the full system, which is a shame coz its in excellent nick!



then the rear headers!


then the rear shock and linkage!!



Only one problem two of the studs on the rear headers unscrewed with the nuts, can i just screw them back in when i replace the exhaust??

Yeah was on Ebay before xmas, ive got powder coated white wheels also, but dont know whats going to look better with the black silver and red scheme!!
