Further Temp Gauge Issue

Post by davepm13 »

Hi all,

Thought I'd finally got my temp gauge to work and now the needle just pings as far round as it can go when the ignition is switched on.

Can someone tell me what the problem is and how to rectify it?

Many thanks,

Dave.

had this on mine when i rebuilt the clocks a little while ago. i found i had a bad earth causing this - or rather i believe it was an earthing issue. I checked the earth and all other conenctions and only issue i found was the earth a little loose.

cleaned it up and tightenend and all now working fine.

Being a bit of a dumbass but are you on about the earth wire from the temp gauge or the main earth on the frame? Sorry for my stupidity but electrics really arent't my thing.

Many thanks,

Dave.

pretty sure for me, it was on the main frame as i had just replaced the loom as i had converted my clocks to use a rrv fireblade instrument cluster, and just replaced the rev & temp guages so i had a mph speedo and a better fit & clearance around my top fairing ( is now a fireblade fairing not vfr 400 fairing - space issues )

check both can really only be something simple, i may have a spare gauge in the garage that i never used off the blade clocks, they looked to be exactly the same when i was striping them down.

Main earth on the frame is usually this cause.

It's earth related though (if its not the frame loose) look for a loose wire from the dial backwards.
