Chain and sprockets..... for the oil pump.

Post by bourney »

I've heard a rattle on the bike recently when it's cold. Sounded like it was coming from the clutch side, so i whipped off the end casing.

The chain that drives the oil pump is shafted!

This is the chain at rest-

When i apply a little pressure-

this is obviously my rattle and a new chain and sprocket set has being ordered.

Anyway, my question is... Why is it shafted so quickly?

The bike has done 23,000km's. None of which have being done by me. It's being a little project of mine and has only being run to balance the carbs and such like.

Also can someone give me an idea as to how the oil system works please. I've only ever reb-built 2 strokes so i'm used to it dumping all it's oil once that end casing is removed. However nothing came out. I realise that it's pumped around the engine but how does oil get to the clutch and that chain and sprockets which drive the clucth.....???

Cheers, guys.
