33bhp gearing

Post by Spike16 »

picking my nc30 up on thursday and was wondering, seeing as I will be restricted to 33bhp for 2 years, should i have the bike geared and dyno'd to suit?

seeing as the standard bike is geared to 130 and the restricted bike will strugle for 110, does this mean the bike is over geared? and if i geared it to 110mph would it accelerate alot better? (a similar question about jetting)

get a 14t front sprocket mate and it will be pretty good.

leave the jetting alone....who is restricting it? I would expect them to dyno it with the restrictors in and see how it runs?? If they don't,. get it booked in yourself so you can see where the fuelling is.

Oh yeah....don't forget the pics

the restrictors and certificate are coming with the bike, i was going to put them in myself but may take it to a dyno to do it and they can sort it out for me.

strugle for 110mph :o , who told you that?

mine did 110 rather easily and is on standard gearing, i didnt touch the carbs and it ran fine.

to make it go faster than 110mph, simply dont put the restrictors in, but obviously this is wrong and you should put them in.

as for making it get to 110mph faster, surely this is impossible :?:

by making the gearing so it accelerates faster, would this then drop its top speed :?:

so for ease and simplicity id keep the standard gearing.
as it will still be faster than a de-restricted 125.

my mate had a de-restricted aprilla rs125 with an arrow race system on and my restricted nc30 would run rings round it. and when i let him have a go on it he said "fck me thats fast,

so my advice as an nc30 ex restrictee is, leave it as it is, then maybe mess around with it at a later date, when you can specificly say what you would like it do, ie accelerate faster.

My restriction certificate claimed that the top speed was 96mph!! and it wouldnt even do that without a bit of a downhill.
This was an NC24 like but im amazed at the speeds some people claim they can get out of 33hp :?

my mates sv just about gets 110 (restricted) and on the sv I assumed that as the standard gearing would be over geared with the restrictors in (which i am definetly doing) and so if i dropped the gearing it would accelerate quicker and to a fairly equal top end, or is that theory sugnificantly flawed?

if you gear it so it accelerates faster you will always loose top end speed.

like i said they are still fast for 33bhp, and i should be a hell of alot more reliable than a 33bhp 125, so for that you should be greatfull,
reliability and speed = win win situation.

Spike's point is a good one - the bike is geared for 130 ish...but restricted will not pull it.

There is no way that your restricted bike it revving out in 6th to achieve 110mph so it makes perfect sense to gear the 33bhp bike to pull out top revs in top gear and see what it does. It will accellerate faster and probably be a much more natural ride.

Mine is full power (and possibly a touch more ;) ) and I have 14/41 gearing. It will ont go 130 mph at all...but gets to 120 bloody fast compared ot what it used to

why not just ride it first and then see if you want to change gearing? it could go alright for 33bhp. when i sold my cbr to a friend i got it restricted for her, when i was riding it over the bike obv wasnt full power, but i was more than happy with it...

well seeing as you actually havn't rode the bike properly yet, maybe atleast try the standard gearing for a bit? and see how it feels, because it could save you a lot of faffing about.

im not saying its not a good point, BUT atleast try the standard gearing first, so then you atleast have something to comapre it against if you do decide you want to play about with the gearing.
