Dodgy fuel tap or something else... updated.
Just filled up in the petrol station, payed and returned to the bike pouring fuel all over the floor it stopped once the tap was put in the 'OFF' position and switching it to reserve had the same down pour. Please help guys I have another tap but just wanted to make sure I don't break things, or over look something.
Also a couple of other issues - Just had the carbs cleaned and balanced and was pleased with the way the wife's bike was running, as so far it's been a nightmare (replaced wiring loom, reg/rec, switch gear, carbs, lower radiator and fan, plus a whole lot more), after starting (from cold) it sounds as if it's only firing on three cylinders then once it's warm she's fine - possible coil problem?
And the battery isn't holding as charge - I need to get the voltage meter out - hoping for a battery fault.
I thank you in advance - the wife loves this bike, and is heart broken every time something goes wrong.

if the bike isnt holding charge will cause to fire on 3 cylinders mine did for a good while m8 when cold
carbs just been balenced ? fuel coming out on on position, you sure they put the pipes back on properly m8, check that first one main line from the tap plus a vaccum, Sounds like the diaprams inside the tap been removed anyhow if fuel coming out normally with bike not running.
Check the lines first its most obveruois thing

Find out where the fuel is coming from first and get a new battery on there, NC's like plenty of juice

Thanks again guys - i'll have to wait till sunday to have a closer look at the tank etc and will try to pick up a battery tomorrow.

Electrical problems can manifest themselves in all sorts of strange ways on these bikes, until the electrical system is sorted you can have all sorts of running issues.
This is a great electrical trouble shooting guide, follow it and you will find the culprit:

Once you've sorted the electrical problems and if the problem persists, check that all pilot screws on the carbs are set evenly, and after that try a new plug.
Once all this is sorted it will be good for years to come, stick with it!

Okay so today I managed to get the tank off to locate where the fuel is leaking from, and it's not the tap instead it's coming from two small pipes (overflows?) coming from the middle of the carbs underneath the air box. any ideas what I can do here? I haven't taken the airbox off yet (will attempt that tomorrow when I've got someone else with me - a wingman so to speak.
Also have a new battery turning up tomorrow which I hope will solve the starting from cold issue.

Oooh, sounds like your carbs are overflowing.
When the carbs fill with fuel the float-needle shuts off the fuel supply, sound like one of these isn't closing, which is causing the carb to over-fill.. fraid you'll have to strip the carbs (remove all the float bowls) until you find which one it is.

Neo's right, sound like on carb float needle valve is stuck or there is some shit stopping it closing. Personally I would take it back to whoever cleaned and balanced the crbs and get them to put it right. Unless your confident there a bit tight to get on and off, but Dataracers guide on here will help if you fancy having a go yourself

Okay so my wing man came over this evening to help with the overflowing carbs, and I'm pleased to say a couple of light taps with a screw driver and hammer the float has now gone to the correct position - No more fuel on the floor, Yippee!
Still waiting on the battery, which seems to be faulty.
Though while sorting this it's become apparent that the rear shock has blown and the damping has all but gone - my goodness is this bike a money pit!

Nearly all standard NC shocks are shot to bits by now. An aftermarket adjustable unit will make the world of difference as will refreshing the forks with matched springs.
