NC23RR Single seat

When I bought my '89 Tri Arm the seat was repaired with electrical tape, I decided to have a crack at making a fibreglass seat cover.

It started with the original seat being stripped of the strap, cover and lock clips.






It's now got most of the filler sorted, I just have a few marks to cover and the leading edge needs smoothing out again

Just lay the fibreglass matting over the seat and paint on the resin over the matting? wait until dry and remove mould?
What are you doing to support the insides? Obviously you arn't just leaving it hollow? right?

As you said up until remove the mould. It's more of a shell, the resin has bonded it to the foam of the seat. The seat foam provides all the support

Do you just paint straight onto the fibreglass????

also i just read you stripped it of the lock clips.... so how will it latch onto the bike? or will the lock clips be re-installed???

Yeah, they're only kept on by one nut :) the only thing that will be missing is the strap.



I'm not painting straight onto the fibreglass as the surface was very lumpy, so I've put a thin layer of filler on top, sanded it back with a flat block until the tiniest bit of fibreglass showed through. I just have the bit where your back would rest on to build up and then it's being primered :)

I did a little mock up in paint and it looks really good :D

yeah, it won't be anything special, just to match my current paintjob (Red White and Blue RRJ scheme, the one on the Haynes manual)


My spare fairings turned up at my dad's house today, so need to get them here (using my trusty Swiss Army CG multitool) I'll probably make a thread about my bike in the General section later

Here's a fairly recent pic of the seat. It still has a few chips to fill and the front edge needs building up some more before I paint it.
