ZXR 400 front end, info needed!

Post by benny1380 »

Hi all, i got an NC30
ive been offered a zxr 400 front end, everything included apart form the wheel, the forks are USD and off a race bike, also included in the sale, race rear shock off of same bike, has green spring in the picture, thats all i can see from here, amongst loads of other bits. All for around £200.

Firstly, what sort of job is it to fit the front end?
Will the shock fit?
Will it benefit the ride? I find the front end of mine too soft at the moment.
Or shall i not go for it and just rebuild my shocks?
I would need to get a Kwak front wheel yes?
I was thinking of putting some ZX7r calipers on if they would fit?

I know Rick Oliver sells the bits needed, but didnt want to ask him all these little questions at once, hopefully i can figure out if its worth it, how diffucult to fit etc.

Any help or advice is appreciated, cheers

rite ive got the front end now and trial fitted it and it was very easy to do. the assembly wasnt any harder than fitting the standard front forks, and with the help of the rick o spacer thingy it just sits a little higher on top of the head stock...
as for your rear shock question just get the thing revalved but i have herd of people fitting gsxr rear shocks with minimal fuss?
if your gonna change the calipers on the front end i would consider a gsxr k series conversion especially seen as there easy to come by and the rick o mounting brackets are only a tenner.
hope all this helps

GSXR calipers off 2001, 2002 and 2003 fit straight on with no modification. Basically any before they went radial, even the 6 pot off the thou.
How hard can it be?

thought you needed to sleeve down the bolts ? or tap out the calipers ?

Not sure now you mention it. Thought they went straight on but now you mention it I think you need a little insert because the mounting bolt is M6 and needs to be M8.

to fit the 6pots you need to space out the caliper abit and sleeve down the hole from a M8 to a M6 if i remember correctly, (can get the measurments i think if you need them) when i had my ZXR 4 i fitted the J model (if my memory is right) zxr 600 calipers on it and it was a straight swap, you might want to change the master aswell as mine had a little bit more lever travel than the standard calipers, but alot better performance, hope this helps
