Whats wrong with my bike? (Video)
Sorry about the quality, I did the vid with my phone, plus youtube is crap quality anyway....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vi_xAnvU8DA
I'm only leaving the video up for as long as it takes for someone to help me diagnose the problem as I accidently got a shot of my number plate in there.
Why does it keep dropping out like that? Its a problem because on my short ride to/from work, if it happens, the battery is often too flat to get it started on the button and I have to bump start it.

Re: Whats wrong with my bike? (Video)
judging by how quickly it goes through the revs, battery should be ok. fully charge it and stick on bike and see if any difference, as a just in casey. though a battery starting on its way out will also show in a stupid level of headlight dimming on idle, aswell as bike cutting out.

handy link to check charging system, takes no time to do and eliminates those lecky gremlins.
but i suspect it is only your idle adjuster needs a turn. at most i would think your pilot jets need a clean, but again, she revs very clean, so i doubt it, but last thing i would check would be the fuel tap - but its more a cant get the thing started on the button proper and not a real idle problem in my experience.
hope this helps

Just turn the idler up a little - seems like its ticking over too low -only just over 1000rpm ( maybe another 500rpm or so would be better)
The idle adjuster is just below the choke lever in the infill panel.
Hope this helps

Hi oliherst, this is viper_biker posting under roysters PC. A few things mate. As said above, your idle is set too low, also, don't rev the bike when you start it as you are just throwing fuel at the plugs and that'll kill the bike like it's doing. Have you had the bike set-up with the Yamamoto system that's fitted? And when was the last time you put in new plugs? A video alone will not diagnose the problem, but you have plenty of pointers to start with and see how you get on.
It's not having what you want but wanting what you've got....Loud ,Proud and Modified ....

Re: Whats wrong with my bike? (Video)
Thanks for your input guys! The battery was fully charged (fresh off the optimate) just before I did the video and the spark plugs were changed about 500km or so ago.
The general concensus so far is that the idle is too low, however when I have had the engine up to temp and everything has been going ok it idles quite happily at 1500rpm.
I got the bike last summer and have done nothing with the carbs/valve clearances or jets or exhausts. I have just about done everything else tho.
I'll try giving the idle a turn and see what happens :)

Re: Whats wrong with my bike? (Video)
Standard idle speed is 1200-1400 rpm.
If it is lumpy at idle then it is a sign that the carbs need balancing.
Having watched the video, tweaking up your idle should stop it stalling as it was down at 1000rpm.
Was the bike stood for any length of time before you got it?

Just a thought about this guys.....would not having the snorkel on the air box exaggerate this at all? I removed it ages ago as per a friends recommendation.

It certainly won't help, the nc30 is very sensitive to any airbox/filter changes.oliherst wrote:would not having the snorkel on the air box exaggerate this at all? I removed it ages ago as per a friends recommendation.
