nc29 Vs larger capacity bikes down welsh tight twisties?
Hiya all,
Does the adage from 15 years ago still hold true?
"....a NC29 would beat larger capacity bikes down welsh tight twisties..."????
I could understand it 15/20 years ago. Alot of the bigger CC bikes were large lumbering things. It took the 1992 fireblade to re-define how a large sportsbike was suppose to handle....
But what about nowadays?
The 600CC are really light now, the CBR600rr is what, 154Kg dry????
The sports 600CCs are suppose to be really sporty and agile....
The latest fireblade is from i understand - insane...
Hope you can advise.

Nowadays, is it more just a case that 400cc are more fun to ride around the twisties. On the 600cc etc - you feel like a passenger, as opposed rather than taking the bike by the scruff off its neck and wringing the life out of it???

I'm at uni in Wales and some of my mates have modern 600's and I must say, these things are amazing. Quick, aglie and light. But they barely come out of third when we're out. To be honest, I think (from your post) you've got the right idea about them. When I ride with them I really have to work the bike, which is good fun. If you have the money to buy a decent modern 600 you'll love it. I love my bike though cos' it's taught me alot and now I feel like I know how to use it. I think that's the only difference, people say the 400's are so light and flickable but 600's these days are just as good. So it comes down to you wanting to really work the bike or not, gives you a good sense of satisfaction though.

The crack with a 400 is that you think you can get close to the max performance from the bike and it won't try and kill you.
Riding a 600 or larger on the roads and getting to the same levels of maxed out performance puts you in danger of being turned to jam, losing your licence and having a much faster crash if it does go wrong.
You can spend more time feeling like you are really riding the 400 and less time pootling on a full fat superbike.
All other things being equal any new 600 will cack all over a 400 anywhere.
If you went the same speed on both bikes through the same wet of roads you'll have more fun and probably feel more involved on the 400.

A modern sports 600 will leave you on most roads if both bikes are riden by two riders of the same talent (cant think of the word off the top of my head but you know what i mean
)
But as has been said you have to work for it on the 29 whereas the 600 just makes you want to go a lot faster to get the same sort of buzz out of riding as you would on the NC29

As I see, many people especially in UK having both 400cc and 600cc or more XXXcc bikes. I also willing keep 400cc just for "technical experiments" :)), riding in city or track. Cost of having is same as 600cc bike for me or maybe more due to spares and so on.. but I like this sort of bikes, it with small wheel base, not so powerfull, but good for riding and ever for lomg distance touring. And there is not so much people here in my country having them and tunning it - so, I feel my some special.... So, no plan to sell it. In future I'm planning something like Yamaha MT-03 or Husqvarna 610sm.
