Battery help needed guys!

Post by Danzio » Fri Dec 04, 2009 8:38 am

Erm well, last night rode my bike for about 14 miles then got off and went to start it again, and nothing...just the horrid sound of an engine NOT turning over as the battery has seemed to have died...has been fine before hand but now when i press the start button it just gave the old weooow weooow sound and no start, noticed the bikes lights (when on, on the ignition) would nearly go off when i tried to start it so i take it its the battery?

held the starter button for a couple seconds longer when having the problem and by the right hand side of my bike, where my right leg is with feet down (or where the sound seemed to be comming from) was a wherring noise which got faster and a clicking sorta??

just in need of a new battery? or starter motor, or fuse or what? help guys!

Oh, and what battery would i be looking for, part codes etc, preferably something robust :)

Flat battery dude. the clicking is the starter solenoid

you need to check the usual charge rates, generator output etc etc.

get a YTX9 battery and stop trying to start it with the lights on ;)

Find out why it went flat before you put the new battery in!

It could just be becuase of the cold spell we've been having latley. However, as your probably aware the VFR's have very fragile reg/recs.

http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/pdfs/Tro ... G-&-RR.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

When you get your new battery, if you fully charge it first (with a proper charger of course) you can skip the battery tests on the above guide but use it to check your reg/rec and alteneator and power leaks.

If it all passes you can do as it says and have a beer.

But for peace of mind, and the fact that a broken charging system can quite easily kill your new battery, for the 30 mins it'll take it's worth it :)

aye thats true neo, thanks for the guide pal, i have to take the back off to get to the battery anyways so i'll lend me mates multimeter and set to work on it, its had its reg/rec replaced before as i have receipts for it, but like you say they dont last forever. i'll opt to do the checks :)

cheers neo.
