Tidying up my dash- help please!

Hi all. Im just working on getting my nc30 back up to scratch after buying it off of
somebody who had no idea on how to look after a bike. Anyway as you can see in the photo
the white centre cap on the yoke is broken and just looks ratty. Where can I find a
replacement or even something better looking? Also I have seen pics on here of the fork
bolts with nice fancy looking covers on them, where do you get these? During the holidays I
was thinking of either re-spraying or polishing the top yoke. Is it much of a job to remove it?

Black steering plug looks better than the standard white one in my opinion, I believe Rick Oliver also does an alloy version.

The one in the pic below is a plug brought from Bunnings (hardware) for $2 for a pack of 4! I think they sell them as furniture leg plugs or something.



Taking the top yoke off is very easy. You need something big enough to remove the centre nut (I use a massive shifter ), and then the two fork clamp bolts. It will probably need a bit of prying with a piece of wood or something to get it off. Then just remove the ignition barrel (held on with torx head bolts I think.

A bit of a tidy up is a good idea. I have one polished one and the black one above, I'm planning to get the polished one powdercoated black as I don't like the polished look.

A quick spray all over with black spray paint will do it some good, but it's hard not to scratch the paint when you put it all back together if you're not careful (like in my pic above - but will do it nicely when I stop frigging around with it!). If you do the bars and all bolt ons to freshen them up it looks great I reckon.

Your dash looks to be in very good condition otherwise and looks well cared for (not even much of the obligatory clutch cable rub on the speedo housing!).


For anodised fork top adjusters, I think you will need later model forks for them (looks like you have early ones in your pic). At the end of the day it's just bling really.

Thanks Data, Im about to rip down to bunnings now to have a look for the plug you are using.
I will contact Rick to source this alloy version you speak of also. I was just on eBay and found
honda brake ressy socks and couldnt help myself, should make it look a bit cleaner i reckon.
Also I reckon I shall go the black powder coat for the yoke also. There isnt anything polished
on my nc30 and it would look odd as you have pointed out. Cheers Data.

Sounds good mate. Just make sure they don't coat the insides of the 2 fork holes (and maybe the centre hole?), it can sometimes be a pretty snug fit standard and might be a pain to refit if the holes are coated (smaller).

Yeah pretty trick!

Better yet, wait until the lower yoke/steerer comes out. I'll be in line for one of those!
