so i got the nc 30 and...

Post by mart »

i was told that the clutch needs work (lack of power to the wheel) and the battery was dead, but the guy started it up off a battery charger and it sounded ok. today i checked the clutch and found the basket guides were worn quite badly so out it came and shaved it with the dremil its quite ok but not a tight fit. Also noticed that the oil pump chain is quite loose should this be?
and there is oil on the spark plugs which for me is quite worring but it is a 19 year old bike and im not sure if this is common with nc30s just have to wait until i get the battery and do a comp test.
so my question are
should the oil chain be semi loose
should there be oil on the plugs
will the basket be ok being loose
and ideas on the lack of power
thanks mart

Oil on the plugs is nothing to be too worried about, I've seen it on my refreshed engine that has good compression and goes like the clappers. It could also be unburnt fuel looking like oil after it makes a carbon-fuel cocktail on the plug.

I can't comment on your other issues.

The oil pump chain cannot be adjusted. It needs to have play init. It'll be fine. Hope this helps.

thanks every one. im not sure what the clutch problem is as i have not had it running yet but the previous owner said it had no drive to the wheel so i guess its very badly slipping ive measured and replaced the plates and filled the basket and will adjust the cable free play i cant realy think what else more that could be wrong with it.

Fair enough. I would probably describe a slipping clutch not as a lack of power but more like wild revs when trying to get places. Mine is on the way out and slips at full power and high revs now and again.

I'll sort it over the winter as the clutch in myrace bike is superb and makes the road bike feel silly...
