I am a dunce!

Post by rich1988 »

Right was fitting a new lock for the rear seat and basically I cant unlock it, (the turn on the barrell isnt enough, I can however move the panels enough to see the actual lock, there is a cable going up into the locking mechanism what I want to know is that little cable does it need pushing towards the lock or pulling away to unlock the lock? (I can see the end of the cable with the little toggle attatching it to the lock)

yours stupidly!,

thats what I thought I do need to know for sure at risk of damaging it further, do you have one? if so GO CHECK! (please:P)

the reason why im not sure is the lever you undo with the lock you PUSH to the right which suggests the cable is pushed into the lock but of course I cant check and the haynes aint got nothing!

If you're trying to get the rear seat off, you can reach under the rear fairing and pull on the cable as a whole, and that is sufficient for the latch to clear the hook on the seat.

Think you may need to remove the end can and hangers for access, or make a long hook as ther is minimal access.

You could maybe use a coat hanger :?:
Good luck.

The catch pulls the cable which runs through an outer to the latch which also pulls the catch open.

I took some crap pics but didn't twig you couldn't get it open. Punctuation is your friend. :poke:

I av returnnnned! I managed to get it off by pulling the bodywork away slightly and sliding a long piece of copper pipe in and pulled the catch outwards and pop! cheers for the pictures CMSMJ1 (I dont think thats your real name somehow :P )

I did however realise how utterly utterly stupid I had been...... I put the bar so it was PUSHING on the lock not pulling (yes I am totally stupid) I do however have it all sorted now and I nice lock on the pillion seat!

thanks guys

(complete with bloody scratches and damaged paint I put there trying to get the thing off!)
