smoke coming out from fan/radiator??
hi guys, my first post on here!
many more to come, since i'm having some problems w/ my NC30 here...
had my '92 vfr400r R3N shipped from Japan to Dubai a few months back, cost me next to nothing but little did I know that I would have to spend more on fixin it up than shipping it.. sad to say that this bike is full of minor/major problems..
PROBLEMS
-oil/filter changed
-needed new spark plugs (purchased and replaced w/ Denso Y27FER-c x4)
-front/rear brakes pads (purchased and replaced w/ EBC FA187HH front x2 / EBC FA143HH rear)
-front/rear tyres (purchased Bridgestone BT-090's -120/60/17's front - 150/60/18's rear)
-regulator/rectifier (ordered online n replaced)
-major rust in tank (removed tank, flushed out residue, dried n put back on)
-carburetor (ordered a used one from the UK, waiting to get it in my hands to be installed)
now, i just removed all the plastics and started my bike, and noticed that there was some smoke coming out from the right side fan/radiator, not a whole lot but still enough to worry about..anyone have that problem before???

Re: smoke coming out from fan/radiator??
Welcome
Is it smoke or steam?
Water or oil that you can see?A bike that has been stored a while can accumulate some gunk on it, dead bugs, dust, oil etc and burn this off when restarted. It might be that this is the case?
Is it from the rad, or from the pipes?
Does it leave any residue?
See if you can get the bike nice and hot, as I am sure you can in Dubai, to check if it is a cooling/water issue or whether it is the crap burning off the engine.

Re: smoke coming out from fan/radiator??
hmm, looks to me like smoke coming out from where the fan is, since there's nothing around the pipe that's wet.. (doesnt smell very nice).. I've removed any oil or gunk surrounding the area but still.. dunno if it can be any residue burning off cuz I run this bike regularly and havent seen any smoke until just recently..
if u look in the picture, the only the lower radiator (Right side) is smoking
do u think its the fan? i dont see it spinning.. or is it only supposed to go on at a certain temperature??
i'm gonna run downstairs n run it for a bit n see what else i can find out

Re: smoke coming out from fan/radiator??
ok, just ran the bike for about 20 mins to let it heat up.. this time, no smoke coming out at all!
maybe it is residue after all, but what's strange is that it happens on every odd occassion.. one day it'll smoke up, the next it wont.. maybe i just need to clean the radiator regularly? or add more fluid?
