NC24 Fork Assembly

Post by Biscuits »

hiya. on my trawling through t'internet for info on my steed i came across a description of the fork assy for the '24. now i've stripped my forks and found them to be assembled incorrectly i cant find the page :(
i have, however, found this:
http://images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/ ... 9_0360.gif" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

does this show the correct assembly? as in tightly wound section of spring at top and (parts 15 & 16) oil locks, the right way round? because mine weren't
and now part 15 is now soundly jammed into part 13, the fork leg.
anyone come across this before?

hi,

mine were also assembelled wrong, i will have a look tonight for the notes i took and help you out. i would recomend against putting any air pressure back in the forks when reasembeling. also mwke sure the right stancheons are in the right leg, they are different lengths to accomodate for the anti dive, also the large bolt patr 20 and 37 are different lenghth but can be mixed up.

cheers dave

thanks buddy

i noticed the different sizes of damper rod and spacer (due to the anti-dive?) between left and right legs, unfortunately whoever delved into them before didnt
i just hope there's no lasting damage or premature wear.
i only started to strip them to change the seals, when the right fork bottomed out and stuck fast i got a little concerned

fnnarr

had another look last night, hadn noticed the different length stanchions :spank:
(am actually a mechanic, but cars not bikes).
dave, those notes would be a big help mate, i take it everything in the left leg is smaller to accomodate the anti-dive? sure i read somewhere (on here??) that the tightly wound end of the spring is the 'bottom'?

practically rebuilt this bike on my own (with help from this forum and elsewhere (jacksons-lair = neosophist?)) but this is one area i really appreciate other peoples experience and knowledge. some ham fisted monkey has already made a mess of these forks (ebay  ) and since this is going to be my main transport i cant afford to make it any worse lol

that would be my website.

If you look at the microfiche I linked to you can see the tightly wound end is at the top of the stanchion :)

ah ha. thank you very much sir!

now to put them back together :( i just hope the oil lock comes out of the fork leg in one usable piece

er, has anyone tried this on a '24?

bit ambitous i know considering the problems i've had just changing the seals but i'd rather do a good job once than a half arsed one several times

soz ant find my info, grr! the forks are the same as a cbr400 nc23. if you can download a copy of the haynes it will be handy, that was my note. the shorter stanchion goes in the antidive leg, with the longer botom bolt and the ally cone thing, there should also be 3 spring whashers in the bottom of this fork which go inside the ally cone and the large bolt passes through it. hope this helps

cheers dave
