Re: Well....it was bound to happen sooner or later.
Yep....
I think it happened when one part decided to become many smaller parts.
We think a needle seat leaked a little fuel into the cylinder. When I went to start it in the moring it locked and cracked the piston. Then over the course of the day riding it the piston failed and proceeded to beat other things to death.
Rod is intact but possibley twisted. Cylinder is beat up. Head is fubar.

Shit..that is messy. It was a non std piston too wasn't it? Good luck with the rebuild and getting back out for your racing season.

I have access to a Hawk to roll around on. I am far enough out in front of the points that if I just show up and ride for the rest of the season I should retain the D-Superbike Championship for a second year. The Formula 2 championship will have to be reaquired next year.

Re: Well....it was bound to happen sooner or later.
ive never had engine problems on a 4 stroke. *touch wood*.
Yet, out of 4 2-strokes i've owned, 75% of them have gone kapow.
Aerox 80cc = that piston was a mess
rs125 = rear wheel lock at 70mph, total write off.
ktm 125 = the piston ended up in my fuel tank.
Were you running the 450/500 big bore when she blew?

Nope...just a 433cc TTS set of pistons.
We are going to make some new ones and bump to the class limit.

OOh crap!
2 years ago I over revved my nc30 (ina big way) and it threw a rod out the side of the engine.
I pulled the heads off and I could only see 3 pistons...
