LOL I was just in the process of pulling out my plugs and they're all tanned nicely. It starts no choke.

No I haven't had it on a dyno, but as you have experience, I'm guessing in some sort of mechanical background.

You would well know that spark plugs, though not definitive, are a very good way to tell how a vehile is running.

Yes if done right, ie the engine run at certain speeds and loads to check the appropiate section of the carbs. Running your bike on idle for 5 minutes and checking the plugs will give you no idea on weather your main jetting is right and so on.

And no im not saying this is what your doing im just pointing out how hit and miss a plug chop can be, i certainly wouldnt jet a bike going by plug chops, but hey thats just me. And as weve just discovered you being in OZ and me in the UK our jetting is not likey to compare anyway.

Boy ain't that the truth!! I'm running 120-118 rears on mine with standard needles and stock air filter and a R&B 3/4 system and mine is showing lean by the exhaust "soot". But I would of guessed it'd be rich. Still not sure and am gonna check the plugs the correct way tomorrow. But eventually going to the dyno.

However a properly set up carbed by may or may not need a choke on start up. But theoretically not If your idle mixture screws are correct. If you have to choke it, you are adding more fuel. Means you should try taking in 1/8 of a turn on these to add more fuel.
