i take it this is the standard settings ?

They're UK spec settings - you'll probably want Jap settings (the only difference is main jets: f 115 r 118). The only solution here is to whip your carbs off and have a look what's inside (and believe me, there's no such thing as stock settings on 20 year old bikes).
