it would maybe start sometimes if it was a poor connection at the switch.

check the earth wire running from the battery to under the seat sometimes it can come loose over time and this can stop the bike starting I would advise removing from the frame cleaning it with wire brush and WD40 and tightening back up again

well finaly i have it sorted  :D 
for any1 thats actualy interrested it turned out to be a fuel starvation problem , the pipe from the fuel tap ( not the actual fuel line but the pipe that creates the vacume ) had split so the bike wasnt getting any fuel hence it sometimes running and not others.
