I have found two good links that will give you the idea. The first is from 3M their process is spot on, the product is also top notch.

Next link is also good, between the two you should have a reasonably clear idea of how to get on.

Basic rules to remember......Clean! Take your time and be methodical! Drill the very end of any cracks! Clean! Use adhesion promotor! Clean!
The principle is you need good adhesion, for this you need a key (scuffed up area), problem is once you scratch plastic is releases oils which prevent adhesion hence you MUST use an adhesion promotor (this acctually seals in the oils but leaves the area keyed up), make the reapir surface area larger by veeing out (some prducts may differ) the crack and reinforce the panel on the back (either mesh impregnated with repair compound or a patch type reiforcer.
Good luck ,hope this helps and feel free to ask any further questions!

I'd try plastex first! I had a hole in my fairing where some retard had kicked it - was about 2" x 3" foot sized - and I repaired that with plastex and was brilliant. You can't tell it's been repaired. It's perfect for cracks and very strong.
Don't over-complicate this!
I've just got some to repair my road fairings with and have every faith in it. You can get it off ebay for £20.

Re: Help/advice needed (splits and paint repair)
Thanks for all the help, think I'm going to leave it for a bit for now, then when I feel ready I will get some quotes for how much it will cost to reprint. Also quotes for other people to repair it rather than DIY. I don't mind it's condition right now too much, but I also think when I'm thinking of repairing the daring ill also be maybe ready for a new fairing anyway (silhouette etc.) as if I'm going to pay for reprinting ill probably want it how I want it. Think ill do this all when my restriction is up.
So ill update this thread in 20 months!
Once again thanks for all the help I'm sure this will be of use to someone else and not just me

Re: Help/advice needed (splits and paint repair)
Just ordered some plastex, should be here wednesday.
Plan of attack:
(On "spare" panels first)
Drill 6mm hole at end of crack,
Clean entire area with Wet+Dry to remove paint,
Grind V channel along crack,
Apply adhesion promoter (3M polyolefin adhesion promoter)
Apply Repair patch to rear (3M plastic repair patch)
apply plastex,
Clean (sand down)

Re: Help/advice needed (splits and paint repair)
I did post up a thread waaaay back on the old forum about my rebuild of a set of Crash damaged Panels using Plastech (as was) Plastex now I believe. I cannot find the link to the original thread but still have some of the photos in my photobucket stash…
My pride and joy…as was

And following an unplanned shortcut through a Lincolnshire hedge…

My panels were after-market anyway and FUBAR after the off so I managed to get a set of (also crash damaged) OEM fairings off another forum member on here (anyone remember Billy Bilboa?)

Some of these just need a lot of rubbing down and some filler where they had tarmac grazes..

But a lot of the fairings were earth cracked or even had bits missing…

Having heard good things about Plastech I bought a bottle and set to work. Now the secret here (or so I found) was to give the stuff enough surface area to work with. By this if you have a crack you are trying to fix you cut/grind the crack into a ‘V’ groove (as per the instructions) so there is more surface area for the plastech to bond with – which it does very well. NB – a Dremmel is a top tool for this…

Holes for things like the mirror stays can just be filled in for ease of application and then carefully re-drilled afterwards..

Even a jigsaw of broken (or even missing) bits of plastic can be rebuilt with some patience.

Once you have ‘cast’ the new Plastic you just rub it back down and final shape it with sand paper / Wet and dry and with some patience you can really get back to the original shape of the OEM panel. Things like the lugs etc on the inside that often broken or missing can also be rebuilt providing you with a full set of resurrected OEM panels…

Once rebuilt and extensivley road tested to see how they would hold up to the real world, I was seriously impressed with how good these repairs were…and in due course these very same ‘repaired’ panels got some paint lovin’ and became No1..which are still going strong today, several years later

So if the current stuff is anything like the stuff back then, then 'Yes' you can get a very good quality fix for your broken plastics, but you will probably need to plan on respraying the panels afterwards if you are going to do a 'proper job' as you really do need to cut in, sand down etc

Re: Help/advice needed (splits and paint repair)
I've got some spare OEM panels that I'm going to repair before doing my RWB ones. But I think I'll plastex the internal lugs etc.
