Re: New NC30 Brake discs - Opinions please
In my case, only if some arse made a cockup at the factory. I ordered a pair of stainless road Pro-Lite discs direct from EBC at a cost of about £250 even after the online discount, and they arrived marked up as such. Part numbers on the centres match the part number for the road disc of the time. One winter, and they were rat shit. I felt like lodging a complaint with them, but I figured I'd just get told that what would I expect to happen after riding through winter.... Anyway, these almost certainly Chinese discs have two chances. So far, nothing untoward has surfaced, and they don't rust in the rain. Or haven't, yet....mo haggs wrote:Regarding EBC prolites, there are two types - race and road. The race discs are ductile iron and have blue centres,
The road discs are stainless steel and have gold centres.
Any rotors that contain iron will rust. Also if iron discs are not bedded in properly they will warp.
If you have gold centres and your rotors are rusting i would guess that the rotors have been replaced with iron ones.

My favorite replacement disk for the NC30/35 is bog stock VTR1000F, I run them on both the road and track bikes and they're brilliant. I think I picked up the last pair for about $60 on fleabay. Another option is Sunstar which are great Japanese rotors, available here in Thailand, dunno about elsewhere.

I'm in need of a new set of front disc's and are quite tempted by the price of the arashi's ones, What's every ones experience of them?
I was at motorcycle live and got offered a pair of thai steel rotors for £140, quite tempted but thought better of it, they looked just like the arashi ones thought

I had a set of ebc cast iron race discs, and yeah they rusted at the hint of rain/not riding, but i rate them well, i had ebc hh pads and they stopped on its nose every time.

Cast iron discs will rust if left in the rain, but are much better than the steel ones.ChowderV4 wrote:I had a set of ebc cast iron race discs, and yeah they rusted at the hint of rain/not riding, but i rate them well, i had ebc hh pads and they stopped on its nose every time.
My Ducati has the cast discs, and yeh they will rust too at a sniff of water when not ridden. I just make sure they are not left wet after washing.

Cheapest I've seen 90 GBP a pair shipped: http://www.ebay.com/itm/FORNT-BRAKE-ROT ... 68&vxp=mtr
I've heard you have to double check the specifications with the seller.
