can anyone advise/help?....... new information added

Post by nazzurro_19 »

ok so it all 3 wires measure 50v then its just some rewiring , is there anyway to phyiscally check the actual rec?

and the stator connector is located in the left hand side fairing yeah ? a 3 pin plug connector and just unplug it and do this test ?

i havent charged the battery tonight so can i just bump the bike tomoz to do the 50v test ?

im pretty sure the alternator is now going to be fubared

heres the connections actually to the stator

i also couldnt test the voltage across them cause the bike wont even bump start now ... and the battery is reading 7 volts

ive got battery on charge and im hoping it will just start the bike once so i can test the stator

You need to fix all the bad connectors, the alternator is probably ok because you have already measured 40 Volt AC between the three yellow wires. Once the wiring/connectors are all fixed, reconnect the rect/reg and check to see if the battery is being charged. There maybe nothing wrong with the rect/reg, just the bad wiring/connectors. You do not need to start the bike to do the alternator AC test again.

Your battery is probably stuffed, it should never be allowed to go below 10 volts. After charging it you may be able to bump start your bike but I doubt it will run the starter motor. Also remember, any charging system tests done with a bad battery can give misleading results. The rect/reg needs a reliable stable battery voltage to function correctly.

exactly as magg says..
my connector block was exactly the same. just cut all the wires and replace the connector block. SOLDER all the connections properly and you should be good to go..
once the connector block is replaced and the connections to the reg/rec are sorted out, you should be able to get it running and then diagnose whether you need new battery or reg.. possibly both..

I aint got a solder iron so thats guna be a tenner etc so a new loom will do

right i have charged the battery and managed to get the bike running

the ohm of the connector at the stator is

A+B = 1.6ohm
B+C = 1.4ohm
A+C = 1.0ohm

is this good or bad ?

then the voltage of the battery when at 5500rpm reads 11.87

then the connector at the stator at 5500rpm is

A+B = 15v
B+C = 15v
A+C = 15v

so am i correct again in thinking that all the coils for the stator need replacing , along with a new reg/rec and battery?

the 3 yellow wires from the reg/rec and the stator all show continuity so i can see none of the wiring is snapped/burnt out badly , so there is now no need for a new loom

what do you guys think though ? should i change the loom anyway

Was the rect/reg connected when you made the voltage measurements on the yellow wires?

Why do you now say you now have 15 volts AC between the yellow wires yet earlier in this post you said you measured 40ish volts AC. What has changed.

You said you had resistance readings approx 1 ohm at the stator (connector) so the stator is ok but you should have the same resistance readings at the rect/reg connected, not 75 ohms that you measured earlier.

Have you repaired the bad connectors/wiring?
