iirc aren't there two little wires that go to the clutch lever housing itself that have something to do with neutral.

Neutral switch only needs to supply a earth signal to the starter relay, the indicator lamp has no effect. The clutch lever switch does the same when the lever is pulled in. This is why either the gearbox has to be in neutral or the clutch lever has to be pulled in to get the starter motor to turn.
Either the neutral switch or the wiring is intermittent. Mine from time to time does not work either, have not bothered to fix it, as pulling in the clutch lever lets me start the bike.

i thought about false neutral when it first happened but checked by pushing bike forward which it did without issue so def not in gear. im guessing some form of intermittent wiring problem.

False neutrals will let you push the bike as if it were in neutral, hence the name.
It's a space between the gears. I can knock the bike in between many gears if i'm trying to.. neutral light won't come on but the bike will push freely.

The neutral light on my nc30 only cmes on when the engines cold, i just pull the clutch in to start it when its hot, i think lots of them do it. Note to self, remember to fix the neutral switch before i put bellypan back on!
Cheers

Hi All
Hate to drag up and old post but my NC30 is displaying the same fault, no neutral light and wont crank unless I pull the clutch.
I understand this doesn't really effect the bikes performance however I am a bit of a perfectionist and would really like to get it sorted,
Everything I read points to the Neutral switch.... dumb question but can someone point me in the direction of this illusive component
Thanks in advance
Chris
