If you've got standard 3TJ forks in I don't think it's possible to have the wrong calipers. I think all of the 83mm Yam calipers are the same.

Can you post up a pic of the casting marks on your wheel?

Are the forks on the bike ???
If not maybe you have the fork bottoms rotated - the spindle goes form right to left as you sit on the bike.

ok next issue I have is at the back !!!

having got a 3tj rear brake off Taggy (cheers!) I need to fit it and the spacing is quite different for the caliper carrier, so I need to make up a spacer and also something to reduce the 3tj's caliper carrier from a 20mm axle down to the 1wg's 17mm.

inside the 1wg sprocket carrier there is a spacer that spaces the carrier out that fits inside the 20mm id bearing in the carrier.

I could easily modify one of these to do what I want - does anyone have one lying about they'd be willing to part with?

Why not look at going the other way round this problem and use the 3TJ 20mm spindle ???
I'm sure you can find some tensioner blocks that will fit the swingarm, maybe from a FZR1000 if they use a 20mm spindle
