Tony, so you plan on taking this engine to spain then ? :o
All i can say is genuine head gaskets, and if it overheated here in the UK, its going to proper cook over there.
expect high 30 temps and no air, then expect vertical rain that hurts when it hits you, then snow around the next corner.
weather is from one extreme to the other over there.

Well im hoping the to cure the overheating issue and something obvious thats causing it will jump out at me during the build, anything that needs replacing along the way will be plus the fitment of the RVF pistons needs the motor to be striped further so nothing is going to be left unchecked, what can go wrong

Its no use bringing the bike with the motor thats currently in it, you'd all be carrying spare fuel cans for me and lapping the valves back in half way through.

By the way if anyone has any ideas as to what might cause it to overheat then let me know, i suspect it just wasnt put back together right by the previous owner or someyhing silly overlooked like a nakered rad cap.

Good luck with the build matey. I got a motor with '35 heads done by mike at BMC. Will try and let you now how she goes ;)

Nope its in excellent condition, im gunna start splitting the cases today to fit the pistons so nothing is going unchecked.

I take it i'll need to get the bores honed for the RVF pistons??

I run 35 heads and coms on my uk spec 30 engine and it is sweeeeeet as. The uk oil cooler keeps her really cool, i dont run a fan admittidly, but when i am going along it never gets above 1/3 temp. much cooler than the standard engine i had before.
Are any of the water passages in the heads blocked, or temp sender fecked?

Pulled the sump off earlier to find a nice mess inside :o All that gunk came of the oil pickup!

Thankgod for parts washers

Cleaned up the pistons aswell, slightly worried as 3 are marked MR8 and 1 ML0

Got the heads out the box to find them all loosely assembled and 2 snaped valves

Thats as far as its going till i get a valve compressor, im going to back track on the RVF pistons idea, the extra cost and hassle i dont need.

Interesting thread. What's the benefit of using RVF pistons?

Sightly higher compression. 8-)

DM, are the broken valves on the same pot as the different piston is on? if so you can assume the piston was changed becaue of the valves. Worth looking down the bore to see if its ok.
