You can put some silicon grease on the rubbers to aid fitting and removal. Don't use mineral grease though, as it will rot the rubbers.

I had my NC23 restricted for a while as it was my first bike too.. One problem which i found was that the restrictors rotated about themselves when in use, leaving the intake hole(s) at different increments. No number of carb removals and refitting rectified this and the cards were on snug. This may have affected performance as i only could get 70-90mph out of her.

i put up with this though, however 6 months later when i de-restricted it blew my mind how quick it was. That was a good day.

The holes should be along the bottom as shown as this allows (although restricted) a straightest-possible intake path. If they were at different angle, that could potentially also give the effect that the carbs were unbalanced. I never heard of this problem, on my CB-1 the washers fit quite tightly into the rubbers. Are they smooth on the inside or is there a step? If there is a step, put the rubbers under it to make it more snug.

Vibration in that area is pretty mad, anything loose will move about.

DK's restrictors are my old ones, they fit nice and tight, no movement.

since ive fitted them my bike wont start :O

ive tried it that many times and throuhg putting alarm on, my battery has gone rather flat but i cant fecking get the battery out to charge it

You shouldn't need to take the battery out to charge it. Have you tried bump starting it?

i cant, i took the rear wheel out and the chain is that shit its moldable because the links are so stiff. i can't get the chain around rear sprocket or even get the front sprocket off to try and replace them...

WOOT, the genuis that i am, i fixed it..
on the carbs theres a black box which i first thought was the CDI box but it had a thick pipe on it. i took the screw out and there was a sticky out end with no pipe, the fuel leak was because the pipe wasnt connected to the carb so fuel pissed everywhere..

ii felt such an idiot as i didnt bother checking to ensure all pipes were put back on the carb when i re-fitted it
