here mate, i queried this with mark (cmsj) and he didnt like this idea however rick oliver does, its not changeing the air flow, its just alows it to suck in fresh air as aposed to stale warm air traped in that area. ive not done anything to the rubber flap that is where it should be.

Interested in that, makes sense, that's quite a big hole too! May have a look at that, let me know how yours runs!

not really the pic makes it look bigger than it is, i should have taken a pic before i put back together,
hopefully go for a ride on saturday and ill report back differences.
ive only changed that on the aspiration side of things exhaust and everything are the same.
oh i have also added that crank case breather too.
new plugs and leads but they shouldnt make much difference. other than reliability.

I have to agree with mark on this one, have you rode the bike on the road with this mod ricky?
Removing the flap altogether makes no difference at all when the bikes not moving, its only when you get up to speed when the air starts to become more turbluant (spelling) the flap comes into place.
I see your idea behind it tho and hope it works as im looking to introduce a bit more air into mine without straying to far away from the stock setup.
Just to throw a spanner in the works my last RVF pulled like a train with no flap or snorkle and just slightly bigger jets, the rest of the carbs looked stock to me. I never messed with it and just left it as it was, it was only when the new owner started putting different filters in it started playing up.

Tony, you know the probs I had with my seed without the flap, I'm just wondering if this is a compromise with the flap in place still?

not ridden it yet, but as i say i HAVENT removed the rubber flap or snorkel, the holes however ive ridden with them in place for the last 6 months, but cut the centre between the 2 holes out and it didnt cause any problems, i did it to allow fresh COLD air in as aposed to warm stale air trapped within the headstock and frame.
i dont beleive there will be a problem as all ive done is change the filter, and made the hole larger just by merging the 2.
inadition it revs Much much more freely now, even from cold where it woudl struggle to rev up in the garage. in march ill be taking the bike for dyno, and i still have an original filter and will see if i can toy about with variables,
and also my bike was pretty rich before on 118Fx 120R so this filter shoudl balance that problem out.
Rick O approves but again ill get back with more substantial information once ive ridden her ass!

Oh i see i didnt realise you were already running with a smaller hole. Well fingers crossed then mate, cold air is good air

cold air = more oxygen = better combustion
yeah been running 2x 25mms since i bought it as i wanted to give it more air to get it closer to lean, as it was quiet rich. but the filter hopefully will get it right or take it over to the lean side and then i shall contemplate move the 120 to the front and sticking 122.5 into the rears i also have some 125s going spare just incase i find that doesnt solve it.
you see the green lines between the red dots thats the extra bit ive removed and havent riden on since,
the joy of this is tho i can always blank this back up if needed.

Yeah we all know thats the logic but Nc's dont generaly like logic

Good to see your giving it a go tho, lets hope you see some good results.
So when you did the first mod to try and lean the mixture out did it work? or do you think the standard filter was restricting that?
