what temp do the pipes get up to?

Very bloody hot!

Get a good quality wrap, don't skimp on there's a quite a bit of difference between the cheap and the decent stuff.

Has to be 250-350*C.
Go for the graphite wrap, the more fancy colours (even black) will fade after several heat cycles/wet weather.

Edit: My mate has graphite on his Harley and it looks pretty trick.

IIRC 1.5mm thickness. Not sure on the other but Cam will be better at answering this.

Perhaps get up a pick when you've done it? I'd like to see a pic of an NC with wrapped pipes.

The wrap on mine is about 20 - 25mm wide, any wider and it will be difficult to negotiate bends, any narrower and it you'll end up using a longer length (as each wrap needs to overlap the other slightly).

Mine is held in place with lockwire to clamp it at each end.

ok will get my hands on some graphite to do the headers, used some SS cables ties and Lock wire, ive been told its doesnt hurt to use spray adhesive to fit and help get a nice tight fit and finish, and also to soak the bandage in water prior to fitting?

also are these the exhaust gaskets i need?

Those are the different types of gaskets and where they go.

David Silver Spares sell the genuine Honda ones fairly cheap.

You can use the above part numbers to search on their website.

Note that the two for the rear manifold to pipes are different than the 4 in the headers :)

You'll need to lock wire it pretty tightly - close spirals all the way down the headers and locked at each end. It expands over time and the weave will eventually disintegrate from heat cycles leaving just the glass/graphite, etc. You shouldn't need the adhesive as you can wrap it very tightly and hold it with tape or similar until it's wired. Plus adhesive will be stinky and smokey when you start her up Not sure about the water thing - can't see the point unless the wrap is uber stiff?

just to update ive found a guy on ebay that coulb be interested in sharing his heatwrapping knowledge and sales on here,

im obviously the guinea pig here so after i recieve my order ill get some pics and a little guide up of what i did and what to expect.

I wrapped my old HRC system up and to be fair it looked pretty rough and it deserved to be covered.

I reckon it is not a fit and forget solution to keepo your pipes clean. The wrapping will stay wet and corrode the systemk. The pipes will look rough as toast when you remove it too...

It did lower my temps but not enough to stop the system melting the bottom of my fairing away.....

When doing it - wear gloves, try to keep ventilated and don't pick your nose, scratch your eyes, arse or balls... fibreglass itch is not cool...

Make sure you haev the facility to lock wire it properly too - you don't want it coming off...

Looks trick, does a reasonable heat proofing job, but not a solution for keeping pipes clean..

I looked for some pics, but have not got any in my photobucket...I'll try and find some as I am sure there will be a couple somewhere..
