I know they'll rust so I'll put wax etc on it every week.

You can use special agents to stop oxidization.

Well, the agent will oxidize first meaning your nice frame will be left untouched :)

It will need re-doing every few months or so, depending on how much you use it in wet weather...

In wet weather not much to be honest. I had bad experiences while riding after heavy rain. I crashed into bust stop damaging and bending front forks of my Runner

you just have to ride more smoothly in the wet that's all.

You could laquer the frame rails

I read a lot about polishing and I also found out that clear laquer may fbe flicking off the smooth polished surface. It also may be hard to put it on

There's a difference between flicking off and flaking off especially in English
