Technically, you can drill them, but it's not advised. 2.5 mm is recommended for NC30s , but NC35s run different carbs and very different slides. The hole diameter controls the vacuum which determines the speed that they 'slide' at. If you get it wrong, the slide action will be out of sync with your throttle input = not good. HRC brought out slide springs for the NC35 which are a tried and tested way of getting the same effect.
