I have noticed on other posts that it is not recomended to drill the carb slides to 2.5mm on RVF carbs.
Why is that?

Technically, you can drill them, but it's not advised. 2.5 mm is recommended for NC30s , but NC35s run different carbs and very different slides. The hole diameter controls the vacuum which determines the speed that they 'slide' at. If you get it wrong, the slide action will be out of sync with your throttle input = not good. HRC brought out slide springs for the NC35 which are a tried and tested way of getting the same effect. Rick Oliver still sells replicas I believe?

Okay, thanks superlite.
I have tried the bike with standard airbox, and 110 main jets, had to jump the bike from the car, then it ran ok. it wouldn't idle very well it would yoyo from 1.5k to 2.5k and wouldn't take any choke, as soon as i tried to put some choke on it would stall. it revved ok up to about 10k then struggled to the red line. but i dont think the battery not being very good is helping matters.
Will leave the battery on charge over night see if that makes any difference.
