98RON such as BP Ultimate straight from the bowser. I've no idea if you consider that a 'low compression fuel'.

The only high compression fuel I know of is diesel. :whistle:

I have no more parts to order, and have just picked up my crank from the engineer. Nice job. Weights a bit more than I expected (took off less than I thought he would it now weighs in at 4.08kg) but having said that it's still more off than the current one.

Now he is on to machining the NC30 gearbox shaft to fit the NC29. We talked through it today and hopefully his machinist will get to it next week. Fingers crossed it is done before I leave on holiday, or I won't be able to start my rebuild when I get back.

I was hoping to rebuild my forks this weekend, but the bits haven't come back from the straightener. Bummer. Instead I may paint my seat unit, hone my cylinders and strip the spare bike of 'good' parts to keep myself busy.

No i haven't even looked at it yet,i know very slack but i've been distracted by other more pressing matters,like finding work,i shoulda been working by now but it's proving to be a bit more difficult than it should be! :evil:

I am enjoying following your build though,nice work! ;)

A couple of questions... who's the straightener and what are you using for bog on the tail piece?

Greggo,

I'm little bit didn't understand - What was the purpose to grind this crank if you get same weight as NC29 crank ? Or I miss something...

I spent the rest of my weekend unbolting things from what will become the wet bike. I removed the good shock and put that into the new bike. With the longer shock I noticed the shock base touches the linkage and doesn't quite allow maximum extension of the shock. I'll have to take a small triangle out with the dremel to fix that. This is something I haven't noticed before, as I am sure when the engine is in it is not so much of an issue. But I don't like the idea of the suspension not being allowed full travel.

I also removed the head which I will put onto the new engine after a bit of a clean up.

An unfortunate discovery at the weekend though, it seems when I was doing a parts trade with someone last year I gave them my spare set of engine mounts. Oh bugger. Now I will have to source some, I can get by with the one set I have but I will need some to complete the second bike. Oops :oops:

Other than that tonight I finished my dash, i'll post a pic as soon as I work out how to get photos off my fecking phone.

Pete: Dunno who the straightener is, I think it is Bob Martin engineering. Stimpy dropped the bits off for me. The bog I use is just standard car body filler. Seems to work a treat and have never had an issue getting a good finish. hurry up and look at your bike. Let me know if you need anything. I started a thread here in the workshop section already for you ;)
Good luck finding a job, hope you get one soon or you'll have to send the wifey out to get a second one!

Parus: The crank is lighter than a stock NC29 crank by 700gms+, add that to a total loss system with no quietening gears and you get a couple of extra horses.

you should look at getting .5mm taken off the head aswell as modifying that gear drive. makes a huge difference not only in power but acelleration out of corners. will match the fastest zxr's then.

hi will skiming the head increase the running resistance of the cams

so any gain will be lost with the extra friction or is there a way round this

You wouldn't increase friction, its not forcing the gears together as any forces like that would destroy the engine. What it does is take up the remaining slack between the gears.

Dan, would mine being a NC23 head make any difference? Not sure if ill skim, wasn't planning too. I just know getting the carbs set up is going to be another headache!

Forgot to mention, I honed the cylinders at the weekend. Used some old engine oil to lubricate and used a set of fine stones on the power drill type hone set up. Deglazed and surfaced the bores nicely. The medium stones looked a bit harsh so I chose not to use those.
