NC35 rectifier

Hi all

The rectifier on my NC35 fried on the weekend during a trackday (stupid 60 + degrees track temp). Anyway looking for a replacement and came across theses on ebay, just wondering if anyone has experience with them.

They look too pricey to me mate, and not really up to oem quality.

If you want a bulletproof unit go for a used 02-06 yamaha R6 reg.

You can pick them up off US ebay for cheap. There are a couple of threads on here if you try a search.

do the r6 ones have the right block connector female end in them or do you have to modd them in some way

The R6 Units have Male spades in them, You need to change the plug to a yamaha one or you can use spade connectors :)

Thanks, i got one from a 01' R6 from the UK on the way :peace: , only cost me 31 pounds landed ($57 AUD). Much cheaper than what they want here. ($110 AUD). Will probably change the connectors so there are less connections.

Good move mate!

Here's a thread showing the difference:

I would recommend soldering new standard sized (6.4mm?) female insulated spade connectors (available everywhere) on to the loom where you cut the honda plug off rather than just crimping the connectors on. Getting a solid connection here is very important for reliability.

A lazy hours work and you'll end up with a bulletproof reg/rect! 8-)

Shout out if you need any fitting tips.

Pic of the connections - I wouldn't recommend using uninsulated connectors as I've done here (there's actually minimal risk of them touching - they're still like that after several races! :oops: ). It doesn't matter where the yellow wires go, but +ve and -ve need to be on the correct terminals.

Was just planning to crimp them as I have never had a problem with crimped wires before. But if theres a need for soldering than i will do that. Thanks for the advice

Yeah solder at minimum the yellow wires, these come from the altenator and carry a high current and high voltage, any oxidisation or bad connections here and the plug starts to burn.

I've filled my reg/rec (same unit) with dielectric grease to keep out moisture seeing as i'm using spades.

ref the wiring on this pic mine has double red/white and green wires that were coming to the plug and on to the regulator 7 wires in total is there a reason for this its a uk spec larger finned reg at present that i wish to replace with an r6 5 spade unit ? i have already removed plug and soldered bullets retaining double connections should i still double up onto regulator ?
