loud knocking
i know its not a cbr, but its a generic engine thing i think and much more people in this section.
can you help loud knocking on way home last night, can you identify?
maybe what parts ill need to buy to fix?

Not sure to be honest mate..
Things to check..
Fairing loose and vibrating?!
Headers loose?
Is it firing on all 4? If not check spark plugs/ ht leads etc
Cam chain tensioner - you can remove this and clean it, could be the problem..

fairings are good
headers fine
just going to wait for next door neighbour to come home and find if i can put into his garage and strip off to see any damage.
lad on my other side (next door) thinks cam problem/valve definitely on the right side of engine and in time with the idleso its a moving part for sure. just lucky ive got 5 days off work with nothing to do as forced to take holiday pre end of year.

Sounds like cam chain rattling to me, it seems to be running/revving ok and on 4 cylinders, too light for crank; loudest on over-run which is normally a sign of the chain area.

Best case scenario if my guess is correct would be timing chain, tensioner and guides replaced plus whatever labour; one things for certain- if it is what I think, then the more the engine is running, the greater the risk of catastrophic damage. If the chain jumps it's probable you'll then also need a ruck of valves which means head off and a lot more labour.

i think its a zxr 400 thing?
my mate had H2 G-reg zxr and it wouldn't stop doing it ever.
had cam chain replaced and set by a decent garage, and valve clearances checked.
does it get quieter at all when the clutch lever is pulled in???

cam chain and tensioner goosed is my 2 cents worth of opinion.
F2 model CBRs do it all the time, they knacker a cam chain in 60K, sounds identical to that.
Replacement isn't too hard if you are handy with a spanner. Align the timing marks, Break the existing chain, attach the new one to the old one, then turn the engine over and feed the new chain through. Not sure on your tensioner, but most i've come across replace from the outside and don't require the engine split or head off.
