slick 50 engine rebuild

ok slick 50 there is loads of questions about this product, mainly when used as an additive to oil.
sticking to the wrong places and shortening the engines life.
but what would happen if you used it selectively on various part on the engine during a rebuild eg bearing shells, gear box, selectors, cams, pistons+bore.
whats your views??

I see something similar at the excel show a couple of years back, claimed zero engine wear and to be honest the sales pitch was that good with demonstrations proving it worked. But i just thought if its that good surley the big oil firms would have picked up on this by now, and like you say it could react with the oil and cause more damage. i see no reason why it wont help in certain places whilst rebuilding the engine tho.

seem to remember (from building a few car engines years ago) that you get very slippery stuff with Kent Cams called cam lube of something? would have thought that would be ideal as made for the job.

mind you, with both this and the stuff you mention - aren't they intended for an engine where the clutch is separate? slippery is of course not good everywhere. ooo err :)

yep banoffe thats why i wouldn't put it in as an additive+ the problem with oil passageways. but coating the parts while they are out of the engine stops all those problems and possibly keeps the benefits (if any?)
neosophist this is just a thought while ive got the engine in bits, and the turn around must be quite quick no real time to send the parts away. slick 50 can be bought at halfords and is quite cheep and quick

I could be totally wrong here as i've had no experience with the stuff but I don't think dipping them / brushing it on etc will do much good.

From what I gather its' just a heavy oil with PTFE in it.

getting the PTFE on even is going to be the hardest part if its suspended in oil as the stuff might settle, try shaking / mixing it up first?

It isn't too expensive is it? if so give it a go and see how you get on, certainly is an interesting idea!

Just use a 50/50 mix of molybdenum di-sulphide grease and engine oil.
