puzzled nc30 prob
Hi all any help on this would be great as im getting a head ache,
i ride my nc30 to work everyday its a 13-14 mile trip each way i leave early bout 5;30am i get 3 -4 miles in to the trip and then i get a loss of power low down in the rev range sounds like and feels like possibly fuel starvation as it splutters as though fuel is running out , i open the throttle and it clears and goes fine , when the revs drop down again it stutters again till i open the throttle and force it thruogh to about 5-6000rpm and clears and runs fine again , this lasts for about a mile or two then the bike runs ok after that, it always happens around the same point in my journey its really odd, the trip home the bike runs well no probs so it seems its only in the morning this happens, until today , it didnt do it this mornin , but it did on the way home , around 5 - 6 mile in to the return journey, anyone had or know what this could be, i thought maybe it could be a blocked tap or summit like that but surley it cant be as it would be doing it all the time , thing is its really intermittent and 9 times outta 10 its in the mornin and any other time i ride the bike its fine , i dont have the foggiest idea on this,

Check the vaccum line that goes from the right rear cylinder to the fuel tap. Check if it's kinked, split, etc.

Do you warm the bike up before you ride it?
If not, try it and see if a warm bike makes it better..

Re: puzzled nc30 prob
cheers stickshift and mart, im off thurs an fri so should get a chance to wip the tank off and check around to see if pipes and rubber flap are how they should be , might drain the tank and have a look at the state of the fuel filter while im tinkering , if anyone else would like to chuck in there views in the mean time as knowledge is power ,
do you suppose it could be a reg/rec prob or somthing or a crap earth , i suppose it could be a million things, the proccess of elimination will begin only prob is i need the bike on the road as i cant get to work otherwise.
cmsmj1 i do warm the bike up a bit , i have to ride off down the road a litle as i live in a little village and a nc30 with ART can at 5.30 in the morn dosnt seem to go down to well with my neighbours so i trickle down the road half a mile and pull over an have a ciggy while she ticks over till she is out of the blue then i get a move on

Re: puzzled nc30 prob
Are you riding on the morning with lights on and home with the lights off?
Could be a dying battery/genny that shows poor performance at low revs as not enough charge being delivered??

Re: puzzled nc30 prob
yeah i was thinking along those lines but i do tend to keep lights on all the time, i just find it odd that it only plays up for a short while usually 5 miles in to my trip and , i use the bike everyday and only ever get this prob on the way to work , any other time she runs sweet with no probs , i was thinking it could be a carb freeze thing goin on as air temp is cold when i set off in the morn but thought 5 miles in there should be enough heat to stop that ,,as the winter starts to kick in i guess it will happen more if thats the case

Re: puzzled nc30 prob
I'm not sure I have ever heard anyone on here complain that their normally very hot V4 is getting carb icing..I ride mine all year round and never had it...I have and a genny dying that did the same thing - I could get to work and back, just, on a charge and only if I left the lights off..lol
worth checking the electrics as it is a fast process and good for the peace of mind.

Re: puzzled nc30 prob
my sv carbs stayed ok through 20 min on the m25 to work and as soon as i hit slow moving traffic and back using the pilots, back came the problems. (very unsteady idol and cutting out) could also be a some dirt in the pilot jets

Re: puzzled nc30 prob
me too i do find it hard to belive there icing as im pretty sure there is plenty of heat in the motor and it is cold in the morning but not that cold huh, i do notice that the lights do brighten up slightly when i touch the throttle at tickover but only slightly ,
so so far its ...
check vacum pipe
check tank breather
check rubber flap
check fuel filter
check pilot jets
lecky check (not sure on procedure on this)
