Race Can - Pro and Cons of fitting to a Road bike?
Hiya all,

Saw this Carbon Graeme France Race on Ebay that went for for £46! Gets one thinking....
Does a Straight Through "Race can", ruin the bottom end and Middle of the Rev range on a small 400cc though? (Neighbour who use to own a NC30 said something about back pressure etc.)
Will Police stop and issue points for a loud can?
Does it ruin fuel economy?
How about rideability on uk roads, and Twisties?
Hope you can advise

most people put a race can on for looks and the way they sound.
few of us do it for better fuel consumption (MUST get carbs re-set up) and extra BHP
depends on your wallet and personal taste.
i have a NC29 with Greame France SSteel headers + a Carbon can co end can= sounds yummy + improved Bhp + better fuel consumption from OEM can.
cops... if the can is stamped with "not for road use" you will get a "pink VDRS? slip" basically take bike to MOT station with OEM can, they check it (not re-mot) and stamp the slip, post it back to police with in 14 days.
SOME cops will give you a fine with the pink slip!
no "not for road use" visible? some cops still give you a pink slip. it all depends on your attitude and if the cops in a good mood!

re-set up could be anything from re-jetting to balancing...
as i dont know what he/she has (jets/needle size) in the carbs.. i dont know whats required to get them set up correctly for the exhaust system fitted.
it does no harm to any bike to have the carbs balanced up once a year anyway.

hiya
ive got a nc29 and its got a cabon can co stainless on it. it has this db killer insert and when i take it out its sounds the nuts but it makes the bike fuelling out when just slipping the clutch pulling away, thats with my 33bhp restrictors in. and before restricted wiv the tip out it had a massive hole between about 4500-6000.. any ideas or would i benefit from gettin the carbs balanced and jetted up??

no hole in power, slipping clutch is a clutch issue not carbs.
better fuel consumption if you commute a lot (like i do)
knowing the bike is at its optimum
not many people do it.. but you should re-tune the bike that has 33bhp washers in during the 2years. then again when they are removed.

it has been known for police to issue a means tested fine, not just fixed penalty, its up to the ar5ehole on the day. Personally, i always run unstamped race cans.
